Pop singer and convicted paedophile Gary Glitter has seen a significant increase in his wealth over the past year despite facing bankruptcy. The 80-year-old, who has not paid £508,000 in damages to a woman he raped when she was 12, has had his assets rise to over £155,000 for 2024 from £125,626 in 2023. His company, formerly owned by Glitter and now managed by others, also cleared the mortgage on his Central London flat.
Despite being bankrupt and uncooperative, Glitter is still generating income from royalties, with Slater and Gordon, the legal firm representing his victim, confirming his bankruptcy. The firm’s head of abuse law highlighted Glitter’s lack of cooperation, emphasizing his ongoing disrespect towards his victims.
Having been sentenced to 16 years in 2015 for assaulting the woman as a child and two other girls in the past, Glitter was ordered by the High Court to compensate the woman for the harm she endured. Additionally, two more victims have since come forward to sue him.
Glitter’s bankruptcy proceedings, held under his real name Paul Gadd, took place earlier this year in Devon. As a result, a trustee can now manage his assets, including his penthouse in London, to settle his debts with the victim.
The former glam rocker, known for hits like “I’m the Leader of the Gang (I Am),” continues to receive royalties as a songwriter, earning from his music being played on various platforms. Despite his troubled past, his music royalties remain a source of income for him.
Gary Glitter’s history includes previous convictions in Vietnam and the UK for sexual offenses against minors. His legal battles continue as his victims seek justice and compensation for the trauma they endured.
