“Virgin Media to Upgrade Customers to Hub 5 for Faster Wi-Fi”

Published:

Virgin Media is set to upgrade some broadband customers to newer routers for enhanced performance. The company announced that users still using the older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will soon receive the latest Hub 5 technology at no extra cost. The Hub 5 features Wi-Fi 6 technology, providing faster and more reliable connections.

Eligible customers will be notified via email gradually throughout 2026 as the upgrade is rolled out. Virgin Media highlights that the Hub 5 comes with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas for superior coverage in homes. The company plans to upgrade selected customers using older hubs to benefit thousands during the year.

Virgin Media will directly contact qualifying customers, eliminating the need for immediate action. Customers can also check their eligibility by accessing their My Virgin Media account online.

To determine your router model, check the sticker on the back or bottom of the device or log in to the Virgin Media Connect app for verification.

Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can notably enhance broadband experiences with wider Wi-Fi coverage, increased stability, and support for future updates. Additionally, it can handle faster Gig1 speeds, resulting in quicker downloads and streaming. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in less than 40 seconds, over 10 times faster than the UK average.

Wi-Fi 6 is the latest wireless networking technology, offering faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better performance in congested environments. It can manage multiple connected devices simultaneously, delivering enhanced performance across various bands. Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it suitable for modern smart homes with high data demands and numerous connected devices. While Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 is ideal for the average user.
