The revelation of the hoax came after Kira’s mother found the doll in her bedroom, contradicting the social media announcement of Bonnie-Leigh’s birth in October. Reports indicate that Kira maintained the charade for about nine months, using a prosthetic bump, fabricated ultrasound images, and even claiming the baby had a serious heart condition. Despite the elaborate deception, family members continued to support Kira by purchasing baby items, unaware of the ruse.
The lifelike doll, known as a reborn doll, was at the center of the controversy. These dolls, created to resemble human infants, can cost between £30 and £2,000 and are crafted with meticulous detail by artists known as “reborners.” Kira’s boyfriend and his family were reportedly unaware of the deception, with social media posts suggesting they were kept in the dark about the fake pregnancy.
