Households in a specific region of the UK are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses. The initiative is part of the Household Support Fund run by Wakefield Council. The council offers various forms of assistance, including energy support, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants through this program.
The vouchers are being distributed to low-income households receiving council tax help. Pensioners who are recipients of Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households. Families receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15, while other qualifying households will receive a £70 voucher between December 3 and December 12.
Eligible recipients do not need to apply for the vouchers as they will be automatically sent within 14 days of the specified dates. Residents are advised by Wakefield Council to be cautious of potential scams related to the distribution of vouchers.
Residents outside Wakefield are encouraged to check with their local councils for support available through the Household Support Fund. For instance, Blackpool Council is providing £200 in energy assistance to eligible households, with larger households of three or more individuals, including children, receiving £300.
Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship and difficulties in paying bills to qualify for support. Proof of recent bank statements for all household members is required for application. It is not mandatory to be on Universal Credit or other benefits to apply, but only one award can be claimed within a 12-month period.
The financial assistance is directly credited to the energy provider and appears as a credit on the bill or pre-payment electric or gas meter. Residents can apply through the Blackpool Council website for this support. Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is also issuing £120 worth of vouchers to eligible residents, with specific distribution timelines based on recipient demographics and circumstances.
