“DWP Preps Winter Support: Benefit Programs Reopen”

Published:

As winter approaches and expenses rise, the Department for Work and Pensions is gearing up to relaunch three seasonal benefit programs in November to support households during the colder months. With no bank holidays in the month, regular benefit payments such as Universal Credit are expected to be processed as usual.

Beneficiaries who are slated to receive DWP benefits on a bank holiday or weekend typically receive their funds on the preceding working day. For example, if you are expecting your PIP payment on Saturday, November 15, it is likely to be disbursed on Friday, November 14.

The timing of benefit payments in November varies based on when the individual first started receiving them. Certain benefits like Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, and Pension Credit are issued every four weeks from the initial payment date, while Universal Credit payments are made on a fixed day each month.

State Pension and Maternity Allowance, among other payments, allow recipients the option to receive payments either monthly or weekly. The old state pension is disbursed every four weeks, with the specific day determined by the recipient’s National Insurance number.

Moreover, in November, some households will receive additional financial support from the DWP through the reopening of three winter benefit schemes:

– Winter Fuel payments ranging from £100 to £300 will be provided to eligible households in a one-time payment during November or December 2025.
– The Warm Home Discount offers a £150 reduction directly applied to the electricity bill for eligible recipients. This scheme recommences in late October and is automatically applied, except for eligible recipients in Scotland who need to contact their energy supplier.
– The Cold Weather Payment, commencing on November 1, 2025, and running until March 31, 2026, offers £25 to qualifying households in areas where temperatures are forecasted or recorded as zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days.

Eligibility for these benefits can be checked on the Gov.uk website, with payments typically processed within 14 working days of the qualifying period of cold weather.
