Nigel Farage Faces Inquiry Over Financial Disclosures

Published:

Nigel Farage is under scrutiny in Parliament for a delayed disclosure of financial interests. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards initiated an inquiry on October 30 regarding Farage’s earnings and international visits.

The investigation is reportedly centered on Farage’s failure to register a trip to Florida to speak at a fundraising event for former President Donald Trump earlier this year. Farage headlined a Republican party dinner in Tallahassee in March, where attendees could pay up to £18,445 for a VIP experience, including a photo opportunity with the Clacton MP.

Farage attributed the oversight of not declaring the trip in parliamentary logs to an administrative mistake by his office. He mentioned sending details of the trip to his office but acknowledged that the information was not included in the register due to the error.

According to parliamentary regulations, MPs are required to register international trips costing over £300, not fully funded by public money or the MP, within 28 days. In response, a Labour source criticized Farage for his absence in Parliament and his recent policy proposals, questioning his priorities and financial connections.

Lib Dem Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper urged Farage to address the issue transparently to allow public scrutiny of his ties with Trump’s administration. Previously, Farage was investigated over ownership of an undisclosed fishing boat, which was determined to be owned by a company associated with him, not a personal asset.

Reports revealed Farage as the highest-earning MP in Parliament, earning significantly from various external roles. Since the Brexit referendum, he has amassed a substantial property portfolio and continues to generate substantial income from multiple sources, including a media commentator job for Rupert Murdoch’s company.

Reform UK did not provide any comments on the matter.
