A trainer, handling just a pair of horses, achieved a significant victory alongside his jockey brother as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. The race featured contenders from renowned stables like Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as Rocky’s Diamond, who finished fourth in the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle.
Despite the competition, Connor King, the trainer, guided Oscars Brother to victory with the help of his brother Daniel, who rode the seven-year-old to success at the County Kildare track. Oscars Brother, the 7-4 favorite, maintained a leading position throughout the race, showcasing impeccable jumps to secure a three-length lead over Koktail Divin from De Bromhead’s yard.
Preceding the three-mile race at Punchestown, Oscars Brother prepared on soft to heavy ground in a novice chase at Galway. The trainer and jockey duo now aspire to nurture a Grade One contender at their yard, which currently houses only one other racehorse in training.
In an interview with Racing TV, Daniel expressed his delight in winning for his brother, emphasizing the horse’s positive attributes and performance. Looking ahead, Connor, a former jockey, hinted at the possibility of entering Oscars Brother in the Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the upcoming festive season.
Reflecting on Oscars Brother’s transition from hurdles to chasing, Connor recalled the success achieved in hurdles and the anticipation of a promising future in chasing competitions. He also mentioned considering the Faugheen Novices’ Chase as a potential target race, highlighting the importance of strategic race selections for the horse’s development and success.
