“Foreign Secretary Inspires Hope in Gaza’s Young Patients”

Published:

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper recently visited courageous young patients who were evacuated from Gaza for urgent medical treatment.

Eight-year-old Mohammed, who lost his leg in a bombing incident in Khan Younis four months ago, underwent treatment in Jordan and received a prosthetic leg. After three months of rehabilitation, he can now walk, run, and climb stairs. Ms. Cooper praised his bravery and encouraged his dream of becoming a policeman like his father.

In addition to meeting Mohammed, Ms. Cooper also spoke with sisters Sarraa, 17, and Sara, 15, who sustained severe injuries during an attack on their home in December 2024. The sisters faced challenges in Gaza due to limited medical resources, but have since received necessary care in Jordan.

Dr. Osama Hamed, a surgeon who has visited Gaza several times, described the dire healthcare situation in the region, highlighting shortages of medical supplies and the impact on patient care.

Ms. Cooper expressed the UK’s commitment to supporting the reconstruction of Gaza’s healthcare system and facilitating further medical evacuations for treatment in the UK. She emphasized the importance of international collaboration in restoring healthcare services in Gaza and providing ongoing assistance through medical evacuation processes.
