“Former Apple Employee Sam Sung Changes Name to Sam Struan”

Published:

A former Apple employee, previously known as Sam Sung, recently shared that he decided to change his name to avoid becoming the subject of online mockery. The individual, now identified as Sam Struan, gained online attention in 2012 when a picture of his Apple store business card went viral. Originally from Glasgow, the 36-year-old worked for Apple before relocating to Canada.

Following an incident where a customer pointed out the similarity between his name and a rival tech company, Sam opted for a name change to evade unwanted attention that could impact his future job opportunities post-Apple. Now working as a successful recruitment consultant, he explained that he selected the surname “Struan” after a beloved village on the Isle of Skye.

Reflecting on his decision, Sam expressed that the viral moment altered his career trajectory, leading him to rethink his online presence and professional branding. By adopting a new name, he aimed to distance himself from the internet joke associated with his previous name, Sam Sung.

While acknowledging the impact of a name on career prospects, Sam highlighted the importance of establishing a strong professional identity, especially in fields like recruitment. Despite the initial fear and anxiety stemming from his sudden online fame, he now wishes he had approached the situation with more ease and embraced the experience rather than stressing over potential repercussions on his employment prospects.

Having encountered teasing about his name since childhood, Sam recounted how the online uproar following his viral moment left him apprehensive about job security and future opportunities. However, with time, the attention subsided, allowing him to refocus on his career goals without the added pressure of his name overshadowing his professional endeavors.
