Timpson, a renowned shoe repair chain, has introduced a new service for trading in mobile phones. Partnering with gadget resell company musicMagpie and AO, Timpson now allows individuals to bring their unwanted smartphones to any Timpson store for instant cash payment.

Recent research by Censuswide reveals that 73% of adults in the UK possess at least one unused smartphone at home, with an average trade-in value of approximately £250. The total value of dormant smartphones in households amounts to an estimated £10 billion.

Although numerous online options exist for reselling phones, Timpson aims to cater to individuals who prefer face-to-face transactions. The survey indicates that 68% of people prefer trading in their devices in person, with one in four emphasizing the importance of immediate payment.

Following a successful trial period, Timpson and musicMagpie have expanded their trade-in service to over 1,300 Timpson stores nationwide. John Roberts, the CEO of AO World, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the convenience and speed of the service.

Steve Oliver, the managing director of musicMagpie, highlighted the significant milestone achieved by integrating Magpie services into Timpson’s extensive network. Sid Hubbard, Timpson’s group director, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing customer experiences by offering a new avenue for smartphone trade-ins.

The collaboration between musicMagpie and Timpson aims to provide customers with instant value for their old devices while promoting sustainability and affordability.
