“Father on Trial for Infant’s Death Claims Excellent Parenting”

A man standing trial for the alleged abuse and death of his three-month-old son claimed in court that he was an excellent father. Klevi Pirjani, 37, and his wife Nivalda Santos Pirjani, 34, are currently facing charges at Liverpool Crown Court following the death of their son, Miguel, who suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away in November of the previous year. Medical professionals discovered that the infant had a fractured skull, brain bleeding, and multiple broken bones of different ages.

The couple is accused of systematically mistreating their child before his tragic death. While they both reject this accusation, the mother has confessed to one count of causing or allowing the death of a child.

During today’s court session, Klevi Pirjani, a former chef and digger operator, testified that he considered himself to be a devoted father and cherished the news of his son’s impending arrival. He expressed concerns about Miguel’s health, stating that he constantly sought information from medical staff.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the family’s residence on Percy Road in Seacombe, Wirral, on November 24, 2024, where they found the baby in critical condition. Miguel was rushed to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for urgent care.

Subsequent medical examinations revealed severe injuries, including bruising, skull fractures, brain bleeding, and fractures to various parts of his body. Prosecutors indicated that Miguel had experienced a series of significant injuries due to deliberate mistreatment.

Despite the allegations, Klevi Pirjani maintained his innocence, emphasizing his active involvement in Miguel’s medical appointments and denying any obstruction to medical examinations. He recounted the events leading up to Miguel’s health crisis, highlighting his swift actions in seeking assistance for the baby.

The trial, overseen by Mr. Justice Baker, is ongoing, with both defendants denying charges of murder and intentional grievous bodily harm, while Klevi Pirjani has pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing or allowing a child’s death.
