Bestselling romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to launch on May 18, 2027. This upcoming novel revisits Barry’s Bay, Ont., the charming backdrop of her previous works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and the town where she has deep roots.
Fortune shared in a recent newsletter announcement, “Just before I started writing, I purchased a cottage near Barry’s Bay. It has been a long-held dream of mine to own a cottage since we sold our family lakeside home.” The main character in “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, also harbors the same aspiration as she returns to Barry’s Bay, where she spent her childhood.
Eleanor, known affectionately as Ellie, is the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier Barry’s Bay stories. Ellie’s dream of owning property in the town comes true, but she is surprised to find out that a neighboring house is being torn down to make way for a grand mansion by its new owner. While details are scarce, one can anticipate a budding romance in the picturesque lakeside setting.
