Russian drone attacks in and around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv continued for the fifth consecutive day, causing disruption to daily life with constant air raid sirens. Governor Tymur Tkachenko reported that four people were injured and various properties, including warehouse facilities, an apartment block, and a retail outlet, were damaged in the Kyiv region due to attacks on Monday.
The region has been plagued by swarms of drones, many of which are powered by jet engines, resulting in casualties, home damages, and warehouse destruction. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy mentioned that the ongoing drone attacks were strategically aimed at exhausting the Ukrainian population. Approximately 1,500 drones were launched by Russia at Ukraine within four days, with over half of them being jet-powered.
In a separate incident, a Russian strike caused a fire at a terminal operated by the private courier company Nova Poshta in the Odesa region, as reported by Governor Oleh Kiper. Furthermore, an industrial business in the southeastern city of Kryvyi Rih was targeted by a jet-powered drone attack, leading to injuries to two individuals, according to a local official.
Both Ukraine and Russia have escalated attacks on economic targets recently, focusing on major e-commerce companies and retailers. Russia targeted warehouses belonging to Ukraine’s leading supermarket chains, top postal service, and home-goods stores. In retaliation, Ukraine also targeted Russian infrastructure, with a logistics hub in Russia’s Yekaterinburg being hit by a drone attack.
The intensified air attacks by Russia have caused disruptions in Kyiv, with the metro services being halted during air raid alerts. Passengers, including nurse and psychologist Yulianna Oliynyk and her two sons, experienced delays and disruptions while trying to reach a school. Oliynyk expressed concerns about the challenges posed by the ongoing alerts and disruptions to their daily routines.
The growing use of daytime drone attacks has added a new dimension to the conflict, impacting the lives of Kyiv residents and creating uncertainty and fear. The situation remains tense as both countries continue to engage in attacks and counterattacks on various targets.
