Tiger Woods Changes Plea to No Contest in Reckless Driving Case

Published:

Tiger Woods has changed his plea to no contest for a reckless driving charge in Florida. The renowned golfer had initially pleaded not guilty to a driving under the influence charge. His arrest stemmed from an incident where his SUV collided with a truck and overturned on a residential road in Jupiter Island. Authorities discovered two pain pills in his possession and observed signs of impairment. Although Woods underwent a Breathalyzer test that yielded negative results, he declined to take a urine test.

Appearing in a Martin County courtroom, just north of Palm Beach County, Woods made minimal statements during the proceedings. He was accompanied by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who is the former daughter-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Fortunately, neither Woods nor the individual in the other vehicle sustained injuries in the crash. However, his Land Rover caused $5,000 US in damages to the truck involved, as per a police report. Woods admitted to a deputy that he was distracted by his phone and adjusting the radio when the accident occurred.

Despite being a prominent figure in golf, Woods has faced setbacks due to various health issues, including multiple surgeries on his back and knees, as well as struggles with pain medication dependency. Throughout his career, Woods has been involved in four separate car accidents. Following the 2009 crash and the most recent incident, he took breaks from tournament play and has not yet made a return to competitive golf.
