“Reusser Secures Gold at 2026 UCI Time Trial Worlds”

Marlen Reusser from Switzerland has triumphantly retained her crown in the women’s elite individual time trial at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships held in Montreal. Celebrating her 35th birthday, she secured the rainbow jersey and gold medal by finishing a remarkable 40.11 seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Zoe Backstedt of Great Britain claimed her inaugural elite World Championship medal, clinching the silver, while Franziska Koch of Germany surprised many by finishing third in the competition.

In the elite individual time trial for men, Remco Evenepoel emerged victorious by clocking a time of 44:53.13. The Belgian showcased an impressive performance, averaging a speed of 52.400 km/h on his way to the top of the podium.

Evenepoel secured a significant lead of 57.31 seconds over Filippo Ganna of Italy, who finished second with a time of 45:50.44. France’s Paul Seixas took the third spot with a time of 46:06.17.

Among the Canadian participants, Michael Leonard from Oakville, Ont., achieved the best result by finishing 13th with a time of 47:02.78. Following closely was Nickolas Zukowsky from Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides, Ont., who secured the 31st position with a time of 48:12.29.

The ongoing UCI Road Cycling World Championships, a prestigious event where riders represent their nations rather than professional teams, has attracted over 1,000 athletes from 75 countries. The competition will span eight days, running from September 20 to September 27, with full coverage available on CBC Sports and CBC Gem.

Tomorrow, the under-23 races will feature the next generation of cycling talents showcasing their skills on the road.
