“Two Nishnawbe Aski Police Officers Face Charges”

Published:

The Ontario Provincial Police has taken into custody and pressed charges against two officers affiliated with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) for incidents that occurred while on duty.

Following a request from the NAPS chief of police on October 8, 2025, the OPP initiated an investigation into allegations involving two NAPS members, as per a press release issued by the OPP on Tuesday morning. The investigation was commenced under the supervision of the OPP professional standards unit.

Dylan Anderson, a 25-year-old from Thunder Bay, was apprehended by the OPP on September 22 and charged with fraud exceeding $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer. Subsequently, Michael McInnis, aged 32 from Murillo in the Thunder Bay district, was also arrested six days later and faced similar charges of fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust by a public officer.

Both Anderson and McInnis have been released from custody and are expected to make their court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on December 16, according to the OPP.

In response to inquiries regarding the employment status of the accused, NAPS provided a statement confirming that the officers are currently suspended pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. NAPS emphasized that further details would need to be obtained from the OPP, the investigating authority. NAPS operates as the largest Indigenous police force in Canada, catering to 34 First Nations communities across northern Ontario.
