Lindsey Vonn has secured her spot on the U.S. alpine ski team for the upcoming 2026-27 World Cup season, despite facing uncertainties about her career following a serious injury sustained during the Milano-Cortina Olympics last February.
The U.S. team announced that all selected athletes met the established alpine criteria for qualification. Despite her recent setbacks, Vonn achieved an impressive 12th overall ranking in the previous season and claimed the fifth spot in the final downhill standings. She also stood out as the top-ranked U.S. female skier in super-G competitions.
A three-time Olympic medalist, Vonn, who is turning 42 this month, expressed doubts in April about her return to competitive skiing after enduring a complex tibia fracture during a downhill race at the Olympics on February 8. Since the incident, Vonn has undergone multiple surgical procedures to aid in her recovery.
The upcoming World Cup season will kick off in Soelden, Austria, featuring a giant slalom event on October 24. The first downhill race will take place in Beaver Creek, Colorado, on December 11.
