Actor Hannah Einbinder took to social media to redirect the focus onto the ongoing situation in Gaza, emphasizing that attention should be on the grave conflict rather than her recent arrest outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN address. Einbinder highlighted the urgent need to address the devastating war Israel is conducting in Palestine and Southern Lebanon, criticizing the U.S. for its persistent support of Israel.
Einbinder, along with fellow actor Susan Sarandon and over 100 other demonstrators, was detained by authorities during a protest in New York City coinciding with Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly. The protest, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, aimed to draw attention to the plight of Palestinians and to call for an end to military funding to Israel.
During the demonstration, Sarandon and Einbinder were seen being escorted by police in handcuffs, with Sarandon donning a shirt advocating for funding people rather than bombs. The protest drew attention to the message “Stop arming Israel, let Gaza live.”
Amnesty International and a UN inquiry have accused Israel of actions in Gaza amounting to genocide, a charge vehemently denied by Israel. Netanyahu, in his speech, defended Israel’s military operations in Gaza, stating that the country aimed to prevent genocide by targeting Hamas.
The protest also shed light on the challenges faced by aid groups trying to provide humanitarian assistance in Gaza, with accusations of aid denial and delays by Israel, which has led to severe humanitarian crises in the region. Despite international criticism, the U.S. has continued to support Israel, planning a substantial arms sale worth $2.8 billion.
As tensions remain high and international scrutiny grows, the U.S. stands firm in its support of Israel, while activists like Einbinder and Sarandon call for a reevaluation of the situation and a focus on humanitarian efforts in conflict-stricken regions.
