Anthony Joshua is keeping his fans in suspense regarding his boxing comeback, with the decision on his next fight expected to be made just 48 hours before the match. Following his knockout defeat by Daniel Dubois last September, Joshua is eyeing a warm-up bout before aiming for a high-profile showdown with Tyson Fury in the coming year. The former two-time heavyweight champion may even feature in an undercard fight before Christmas at short notice.
Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed, “We will make a decision this week on his next fight. If he fights this year, the announcement may come last minute, with opponents already lined up for a tune-up fight to allow Joshua to simply show up, weigh in, and step into the ring without much ado.” Hearn expressed his desire for Joshua to have a low-key fight scenario, emphasizing that it’s not about ticket sales but about Joshua showcasing his skills.
While discussing potential opponents, Hearn mentioned that a fight against YouTuber Jake Paul would be an exception to the low-key approach. However, Hearn clarified that despite discussions, no official offer has been made for Joshua to face Paul. Additionally, Hearn dismissed the idea of Joshua stepping in as a replacement opponent for Paul’s upcoming fight in December.
In other boxing news, the highly anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is scheduled for Saturday, November 15, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Fans have the option to watch the fight on DAZN PPV for £24.99 or stream it for free with a DAZN Ultimate plan.
Joshua is currently in search of a new coaching team, having parted ways with trainer Ben Davison after their collaboration in his last three fights. Visiting Oleksandr Usyk’s training camp in Spain last week, Joshua is gearing up for the next phase of his boxing career. Notably, Joshua has previously worked with renowned trainers such as Tony Sims, Rob McCracken, Robert Garcia, and Derrick James before transitioning to Fury’s former stable.
