“B.C. Conservative Candidate Removed Over Offensive Social Media Posts”

Published:

The B.C. Conservatives have removed Joachim Agou as their candidate for the Victoria-Beacon Hill riding due to offensive posts on social media. One post from September 7, 2025, depicted a car colliding with pro-Palestinian protesters in Switzerland, with Agou commenting, “He should have reversed too!!!” Additionally, in November 2024, Agou shared a meme featuring Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and right-wing European leaders with the message “Make the west great again.”

Another post on June 26, 2025, showed a meme of Trump on Air Force One, accompanied by a caption implying a derogatory remark about Pakistan. These posts have been deleted. Agou avoided questions from reporters during a scheduled meet-and-greet event with Victoria residents, refusing to confirm or deny authorship of the posts or express regret.

Following inquiries from reporters, B.C. Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson swiftly dropped Agou as a candidate, denouncing the comments as unacceptable. Doerkson stated that Agou would no longer represent the Conservatives if elected. The B.C. NDP candidate for Surrey City Centre, Amna Shah, condemned Agou for his racist and offensive remarks.

This incident marks the first instance during the campaign where the B.C. Conservatives have had to dismiss a candidate. Agou, described as a test and evaluation engineer in the defense sector, had his bio removed from the party’s website. His potential candidacy as an Independent remains uncertain.
