Virgin Media O2 users are being cautioned to be vigilant against a new email scam circulating in the UK. The fraudulent emails exploit the recent closure of O2’s outdated 3G mobile platform, prompting users to upgrade their SIM cards under the guise of an official communication from the company.

Although most customers are unaffected by the transition to faster 4G and 5G services, cybercriminals are capitalizing on the situation. The deceptive emails mimic Virgin Media O2’s branding and urge recipients to switch to a new 5G SIM for improved network performance.

It is crucial for customers to exercise caution and refrain from clicking on any links or replying to these emails. The network has emphasized that these messages are not legitimate and should be deleted immediately. Recipients can report suspicious emails by forwarding them to phishing@virginmediao2.co.uk.

The phishing scam aims to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive personal information by impersonating reputable organizations. In some cases, scammers may even send a fake SIM card via courier and request access using a PIN code. The email may also prompt users to log in to the O2 app with a provided password, potentially connecting them directly to fraudsters.
