“Breanna Stewart Leads Liberty to Dominant Win Over Tempo”

Published:

Breanna Stewart led the New York Liberty to a dominant 106-69 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Sunday, scoring 27 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out four assists. Despite the loss, the Tempo celebrated their final home game of the season in front of a full crowd of 8,200 at Coca-Cola Coliseum.

Stewart, who recently guided the United States to a world championship title in Berlin and earned the tournament MVP award, played limited minutes against Toronto. Center Jonquel Jones also contributed with 11 points for the Liberty, who have now won three consecutive games.

On the Tempo side, forward Laura Juskaite had a standout performance with a career-best 28 points, followed by rookie Kiki Rice with 19 points. However, the Tempo, missing key players Brittney Sykes and Marina Mabrey due to injuries, suffered their sixth consecutive defeat and 18th loss in 19 games.

Despite a promising 7-5 start, the Tempo struggled after Sykes’ absence and Mabrey’s injury. They finished with a 4-17 home record, playing some games in Montreal and Vancouver. Moving forward, the Tempo will face the Chicago Sky in their next game.

The Toronto Tempo’s challenging season has seen them struggle at home, with only four victories, ranking among the teams with the fewest home wins in the league.
