A man previously convicted of sex offenses against children has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy. The offender, Ryan James Knight, admitted to the crimes which occurred over several months in 2024 and 2025.
Knight, who had changed his last name from Gabourie, was hired by the boy’s family to renovate their basement. Subsequently, Knight employed the child for odd jobs at his own residence, where the abuse took place. The family was unaware of Knight’s criminal history due to the name change.
The abuse was uncovered when Knight was stopped by police while driving with the boy. Investigation revealed that Knight had been exploiting the child, with evidence found on electronic devices seized from him. The victim disclosed that Knight would take him out and allow him to stay over, manipulating him into secrecy.
Additionally, another boy, aged 14, who frequented Knight’s home was identified, prompting concerns from his family after noticing behavioral changes. While initial reports suggested Knight had abused two teenagers, some charges were dropped during legal proceedings.
In a poignant impact statement, the abused boy’s father described the profound change in his son’s behavior and demeanor, attributing it to the trauma inflicted by Knight. The grandmother also expressed witnessing the emotional deterioration of her once cheerful grandson.
Prosecutors highlighted the unique challenges faced by male victims of sexual abuse, emphasizing the stigma and shame associated with such experiences. Knight’s defense attorney cited his client’s own history of abuse, seeking understanding for his actions.
Knight, expressing remorse, apologized for the harm caused and the deception regarding his past. He was sentenced to over 13 years in prison, with strict conditions imposed, including no contact with the victims. The case serves as a stark reminder of the lasting impact of sexual abuse on victims and their families.
