Former Aviva Executive David Barral Dies in Aston Martin Crash

A tragic incident occurred as a former Aviva executive, David Barral, passed away in a car accident involving his Aston Martin vehicle. The car veered off the road, collided with a tree, and caught fire near Wetherby in West Yorkshire.

The family of the 63-year-old businessman expressed their sorrow over his untimely death, describing him as a remarkable individual. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and are urging any potential witnesses to come forward with information.

The fatal crash took place on the A58 Leeds Road between Bardsey and Collingham around 2 pm on Tuesday, with Mr. Barral behind the wheel of a grey Aston Martin DBX SUV at the time.

In a heartfelt statement, his family mourned his loss, saying, “We are devastated by the passing of an exceptional man. Rest in peace David, you will be deeply missed, and your memory will forever live in our hearts. We love you.”

Following the incident, images revealed a significant presence of emergency services at the accident site near a curved road and a fallen tree.

According to a statement from West Yorkshire Police, “David Barral, 63, was identified as the individual who tragically lost his life in a collision involving his grey Aston Martin DBX SUV on the A58 Leeds Road between Bardsey and Collingham at 2:05 pm on Tuesday (14 October).”

The police statement continued, “David was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The Major Collision Enquiry Team is seeking anyone who witnessed the incident or observed the vehicle’s movements leading up to the crash to come forward.

David Barral held various senior positions during his 30-year career at Aviva Life and Pensions, serving as the UK and Ireland CEO from 2011 until 2015. Additionally, he held non-executive chairman roles at Virgin Wines and the Embark Group, as well as serving as a senior independent director at LV insurance. At the time of his passing, he was serving as a strategic advisor at Harwood Capital investment group.
