Users of various devices, including Samsung models, are facing a troublesome issue with the Gmail app, experiencing screen flickering that disrupts their ability to read emails and send messages. Some individuals have reported instances of text disappearing entirely, while others are only seeing blank white boxes instead of their email content.
Frustrated individuals have turned to social media platforms to express their grievances regarding this glitch. One user, Jeremiah, vented his frustration on X, addressing Gmail directly about the ongoing screen flickering problem on his Samsung Fold device, emphasizing the unacceptable nature of the issue persisting for four days.
Similar complaints have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing the persistent screen flickering issue that makes it impossible to read emails despite attempting various troubleshooting methods without success.
Google’s product expert Kimiya Kitani has indicated that the problem seems to be related to Android System WebView, a key component enabling apps to display web content within the application itself. Kitani mentioned that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are encountering intermittent challenges with Android System WebView, and the matter has been escalated to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of affected users remains unclear, it is noted that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted by this issue.
In the interim, a temporary workaround has been suggested by Kitani, advising users to rotate their devices as a potential solution to stop the screen flickering. By opening the email in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the screen displays correctly, and then switching back to portrait mode, users may alleviate the flickering problem temporarily.
As users await a permanent fix from Google, this simple workaround may serve as a temporary resolution to the screen flickering glitch in the Gmail app.
