Google has announced that it will no longer provide support for Chrome on older versions of Apple’s macOS for MacBook users. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users will not receive updates or security patches, potentially leaving them vulnerable to cyber threats.
Users on macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier will no longer receive Chrome updates. Those affected will need to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to ensure continued browser support. Some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Air models purchased before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, necessitating a device upgrade to use Chrome securely.
The change is set to take effect in July this year. Google confirmed that Chrome version 150 is the last to support macOS 12 (Monterey), with version 151 scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users must have macOS 13 or newer to receive future Chrome updates.
While older Chrome versions will still function, no further updates will be provided for macOS 12 users. Google advises users to transition to a supported macOS version like macOS 13 Ventura to continue receiving security updates and new Chrome features.
