A gentleman received a pancreatic cancer diagnosis similar to R&B artist D’Angelo after experiencing abdominal tightness. Dan Godley, aged 32, was diagnosed with stage three pancreatic cancer upon feeling tightness in his abdomen. He commenced Folfirinox chemotherapy shortly after diagnosis, but scans exposed the tumor’s location around a significant artery.
Following this, the civil servant was scheduled for a rare treatment known as Irreversible Electroporation, utilizing an electric current to eliminate cells. During the procedure, doctors opted for a total pancreatectomy, removing his pancreas, gallbladder, and common bile duct. In July 2022, Dan was declared cancer-free due to the groundbreaking surgery.
This news comes after D’Angelo’s family disclosed his passing due to pancreatic cancer. Dan believes that D’Angelo’s public battle with cancer will raise awareness about the disease among millions.
Reflecting on his own journey, Dan from Forest Hill, South East London, emphasized the importance of early action and awareness in battling pancreatic cancer. Diagnosed in November 2021, Dan proposed to his then-girlfriend Anna, 30, moments after learning about his limited prognosis of 12 to 18 months.
Recalling the moment of diagnosis, Dan expressed his initial disbelief and struggle to comprehend the reality of the situation. Despite being only 28 at the time of diagnosis, doctors initially expressed doubts about successful treatment options.
Following surgery in July 2022, Dan achieved a cancer-free status but underwent subsequent chemotherapy until February of the following year. Since then, he has married Anna, resumed cycling four times a week, and returned to the gym. The successful surgery, which Dan had not previously considered as an option, left him in awe and took time to fully grasp the implications.
