Michelle Mone & Husband Invest $10M in Fisher Island Condo

Renowned businesswoman Michelle Mone and her spouse, Douglas Barrowman, have invested in a luxurious $10 million condominium situated in one of the most prestigious areas in the United States. This move comes amid ongoing scrutiny regarding their obligation to repay substantial funds to the UK government following the PPE scandal.

The couple recently acquired an opulent four-bedroom, five-bathroom residence on Fisher Island in Florida, famously dubbed ‘Billionaire Island,’ in July. Fisher Island, accessible solely by ferry, yacht, or helicopter, is renowned for housing some of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Interestingly, their purchase coincided with a High Court ruling that demanded PPE Medpro, a company led by Mr. Barrowman, to reimburse £122 million to the government for providing defective surgical gowns during the pandemic.

Speculations had circulated about Ms. Mone’s relocation to the US, especially to Fisher Island, known for its exorbitant real estate and celebrity residents like Oprah Winfrey and Julia Roberts. The couple underwent a rigorous screening process by the elite Fisher Island Club committee before receiving approval for their lavish apartment, which offers unparalleled luxury, including panoramic ocean views and private elevator access.

Their 5,000 square feet corner unit, nestled in an exclusive waterfront building on Fisher Island, boasts a wraparound terrace with stunning vistas of Miami Beach, Biscayne Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. Internally, the residence features a modern kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, bespoke fixtures, and granite countertops.

Barrowman, an avid golfer at 60, can enjoy a nearby nine-hole golf course, while Baroness Mone, aged 54, has access to the island’s private amenities such as a gym, salon, and upscale dining venues. Despite once owning a £6.8 million yacht, Lady M, they have since sold it, as Fisher Island offers two marinas for residents.

As their financial affairs and Mone’s parliamentary status face increased scrutiny, calls for her resignation from the House of Lords are mounting. Recent revelations exposed the inadequately sterilized Chinese-made gowns supplied by PPE Medpro, a company Mone allegedly recommended through the government’s ‘VIP lane’ shortly after its establishment in May 2020.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves insists on the full repayment of £122 million, emphasizing the government’s pursuit to reclaim the funds. However, PPE Medpro missed the repayment deadline in October and has initiated administration proceedings, raising concerns about the potential loss of taxpayer funds.

In response to these challenges, Mone and Barrowman have initiated the sale of portions of their real estate holdings in the UK, including a luxurious London townhouse worth £19 million and two properties in Glasgow. Mark Williams-Thomas, representing Lady Mone, indicated that Barrowman’s investment company purchased the Fisher Island property with plans for renovation and subsequent resale.

“Mr. Barrowman, an experienced investor with over three decades of asset trading, has recently acquired a property on Fisher Island for refurbishment and eventual resale through his group’s property division,” Williams-Thomas stated.
