“Monster in Disguise: The Horrific Crimes of Marcus Wesson”

Published:

Marcus Wesson portrayed himself as a caring father to the outside world, but more than two decades ago, he committed a heinous crime that left witnesses scarred for life.

Over a span of 30 years, the ex-military man subjected his wife and her children, many of whom were his own, to relentless abuse. After serving in Vietnam, Wesson entered into a relationship with Rosemary Solorio and resided with her and her eight children.

By 1971, Wesson fathered a son with Rosemary, and shortly thereafter, he began sexually assaulting her daughter, Elizabeth, who was just eight at the time. When Elizabeth turned 14 and Wesson 34, they married, and within four months, she gave birth to their first child.

In total, the couple had 10 children, including one who tragically passed away. Additionally, one of Elizabeth’s younger sisters entrusted her seven children to the couple due to her struggles with substance abuse.

Wesson proved to be a tyrannical patriarch, living off welfare benefits and money extorted from his children. He had a history of convictions for welfare fraud and perjury, leading the family to inhabit decrepit dwellings such as abandoned houses and dilapidated shacks.

However, the true horror unfolded behind closed doors. Wesson inflicted physical and sexual abuse on his wife and offspring, imposed strict control over Elizabeth and their children’s education, and indoctrinated them with his distorted beliefs.

He authored a perverse rendition of the Bible, asserting that Jesus was a vampire, and demanded to be revered as a deity by his children. His daughters were coerced into preparing for marriage to him, subjected to inappropriate lessons from a young age, and tragically endured sexual abuse resulting in pregnancies.

The household chores included menial tasks like grooming Wesson’s dreadlocks and forbade siblings from interacting with each other or their mother.

In 2004, Wesson announced a family relocation from Fresno to Washington, prompting a confrontation with extended family members and rebellious nieces seeking to liberate the children. Law enforcement intervention revealed a gruesome scene inside the residence, where nine bodies lay in a room filled with antique coffins, each victim fatally shot in the eye.

All the deceased, comprising Wesson’s children, fell victim to his horrendous actions. This tragic event still haunts Jerry Dyer, the current Mayor of Fresno and former police chief, who expressed profound shock at the brutality and twisted beliefs that permeated Wesson’s household.

Ralph Torres, a defense attorney involved in Wesson’s legal proceedings, also recalls the harrowing details of the case as an unforgettable and deeply disturbing chapter in his long career.

The home where the massacre occurred has since been demolished, serving as a solemn reminder of the horrors that transpired within its walls. Today, Marcus Wesson, now 79 years old, remains incarcerated at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center following his death sentence in 2005, which was later commuted due to changes in California’s capital punishment laws.

Despite this, the lingering anger and disbelief persist among those who witnessed Wesson’s malevolent deeds, with many believing that justice has yet to be fully served.
