An incident of a passenger going overboard has been reported on a cruise ship with British holidaymakers onboard.
Passengers aboard the Norwegian Jewel, en route from Barcelona to Miami, were awakened at 2 am by the sounding of “code Oscar starboard” over the ship’s speakers, indicating a maritime emergency related to a person overboard. A passenger stated that cruise staff confirmed the overboard situation and the ship is currently engaged in search and rescue operations, circling the Atlantic Ocean.
The Norwegian cruise ship embarked from Barcelona on October 15, 2025. A British passenger, who preferred anonymity, recounted, “I was asleep in my cabin when the captain made an announcement about ‘code Oscar starboard’.”
“Upon hearing it in our rooms, I researched its meaning and discovered that ‘Oscar’ signifies a person overboard. Shortly after, an announcement confirmed that someone had gone overboard, prompting our ongoing circling of the area,” the passenger added.
Norwegian Cruise Line has been approached for a statement regarding the incident.
