“Premiers Reject Elon Musk’s Call for Alberta and Saskatchewan Independence”

Published:

Premiers of Alberta and Saskatchewan have dismissed a proposal by Elon Musk, a prominent tech magnate, advocating for the two provinces to break away from Canada. Musk voiced his opinion on Twitter, suggesting that Quebec, Alberta, and Saskatchewan could benefit from independence.

Responding to comments from Quebec premier-designate Paul St-Pierre Plamondon about Quebec’s potential independence, Musk’s remarks were met with a simple “No” from Premier Scott Moe on his social media platform.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith also voiced strong disagreement with Musk’s viewpoint. Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized that Canada’s future will be determined by Canadians’ priorities and stressed the importance of a strong, independent, and prosperous Canada free from foreign interference.

In the upcoming Alberta provincial referendum on October 19, Smith expressed her intention to vote in favor of staying within Canada. Premier Moe believes in a stronger Saskatchewan within a united Canada, although he acknowledged the possibility of a referendum if enough signatures were collected.

Moe’s relationship with Prime Minister Mark Carney has been notably better than his previous interactions with Justin Trudeau. Meanwhile, in Quebec, the Parti Québécois has returned to power, with premier-to-be Paul St-Pierre Plamondon promising a referendum following the provincial election.

The political landscape in Canada is evolving, with different provinces weighing in on the issue of independence and sovereignty.
