Putin Tests “Poseidon” Nuclear Torpedo, Rattles US Relations

Published:

Vladimir Putin has conducted a successful test of a nuclear torpedo with the capability to render vast coastlines uninhabitable, which he described as a significant achievement. The Russian leader tested the new weapon, similar to ones found in the US and UK nuclear arsenals, that can generate radioactive tsunamis leading to widespread uninhabitability. Putin highlighted the successful launch of the torpedo, named Poseidon, from a carrier submarine, including the activation of its nuclear power unit, marking a groundbreaking advancement.

Comparing the power of the Poseidon to the Russian-developed Sarmat intercontinental missile, also known as SS-X-29 or Satan II, Putin emphasized the superior strength of the torpedo. This recent test follows a series of other demonstrations, including the recent launch of the “Flying Chernobyl” missile by Russia. Moscow’s top general, Valery Gerasimov, confirmed the successful testing of an experimental cruise missile, dubbed Burevestnik in Russia and “Skyfall” by NATO, which operates with a nuclear reactor and possesses long-range capabilities while evading defense systems.

The test is viewed as a strategic statement to Donald Trump following the breakdown of plans for a meeting in Budapest regarding the conflict in Ukraine. In response, President Trump mentioned the presence of a US nuclear submarine near the Russian coast, downplaying the significance of the Russian missile test. Trump, during his visit to Asia, criticized Putin for focusing on missile tests instead of ending the prolonged conflict in Ukraine, which was initially anticipated to be short-lived but has extended for several years.
