American rapper Rick Ross, also known as William Roberts II, was taken into custody in Miami Beach on charges of battery following an alleged domestic violence incident, as confirmed by local authorities to The Associated Press. Ross is facing one count of felony battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor battery charge. He was released on bail after posting a cash bond, as per online court records.
According to reports, an unnamed woman claimed that Ross, with whom she was residing, accused her of infidelity on August 28. She alleged that Ross physically assaulted her, including choking her with her clothing and slamming her against a wall. The incident was reported on Tuesday, leading to Ross surrendering himself at the local police station on Thursday morning.
In a statement shared with CBC News, Ross’s legal representatives asserted his innocence, mentioning that he has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Ross took to Instagram to assert his innocence, labeling the accusations as “fabricated allegations.”
Ross, a prominent Miami-based rapper since the 2000s, gained fame with his debut single “Hustlin'” in 2006. He reached further success by signing with Jay Z’s Def Jam Records and releasing his chart-topping album “Port of Miami.” In 2008, he established his own label, Maybach Music Group, where he signed artists such as Meek Mill and French Montana.
An arraignment for the case is scheduled for October 22. If you require immediate assistance due to intimate partner violence, please reach out to crisis lines and local support services.
