Samsung Galaxy S21 Models Lose Software Support

Published:

Samsung has officially discontinued support for three older models of its Galaxy smartphones, meaning they will no longer receive essential software updates. The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra have been removed from the list of supported devices for security patches, indicating that they will not receive any future system updates. This move suggests that users of these 2021-released phones may want to consider upgrading for security reasons.

While Samsung initially promised four years of Android updates and five years of security updates for the S21 series, those commitments have now expired in 2026. In contrast, newer models like the Galaxy S25 now come with extended support of seven years for both Android and security updates, providing users with a longer device lifespan.

Notably, the Galaxy S21 FE continues to receive quarterly security updates and is expected to do so for at least another year. For those contemplating an upgrade, it might be prudent to wait a bit longer as Samsung is anticipated to unveil the Galaxy S26 series later this month, with potential enhancements such as a faster processor, improved camera quality, sturdier design, and better battery performance.
