Authorities have unveiled new information in the search for Melodee Buzzard, the missing nine-year-old girl, more than a fortnight after she was reported missing. The case has taken a troubling turn with recent revelations.
The hunt for Melodee commenced on October 14 following concerns raised by a school official about her extended absence.
After visiting the family residence and conversing with Ashlee Buzzard, Melodee’s 35-year-old mother, law enforcement found no trace of the girl and no credible explanation for her whereabouts was provided.
Recent surveillance footage released by the police captures Melodee inside a car rental establishment in Santa Barbara on October 7, a week before she went missing in Lompoc, her hometown located approximately 55 miles away from the last sighting.
The images depict Melodee wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with a dark, straight wig, potentially used to alter her appearance, as mentioned in a police statement. It was noted that both Melodee and her mother have been known to wear wigs.
According to reports, Ashlee rented a white Chevrolet Malibu and embarked on a three-day road trip from Lompoc, California to the Nebraska area with Melodee. Investigators are focusing on determining Melodee’s activities during this trip and her current whereabouts.
The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office is aiding in the investigation, indicating that Melodee may have been with her mother as recently as October 7, possibly traveling as far as Nebraska.
The rental car is no longer in Ashlee’s possession, and she has been uncooperative, providing no information regarding her daughter’s location. Melodee’s young age and prolonged absence categorize her as a vulnerable individual.
Sheriff Bill Brown emphasized the commitment to locating Melodee, urging the public to share any relevant information. The community’s safety concerns for Melodee are shared by the Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities remain hopeful that Melodee might be with a relative or friend unaware of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. Melodee is described as 4 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing 60 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
