Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, has been recognized as one of the best in its class. Known for its exceptional features like live TV recording, access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix, Sky is now shifting its focus from the traditional satellite-based platform to internet-centric products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This move could pave the way for a new competitor to enter the market for those who prefer physical recordings.
Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that emulates many of the prominent features of Sky Q. Equipped with a 2TB built-in hard drive similar to Sky’s flagship model, the Aura EZ allows users to store a vast amount of TV programs, movies, and sports content. The inclusion of internal storage in a time where physical recording options are diminishing makes the Aura EZ a noteworthy addition.
Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ leverages Freely technology, enabling users to watch live TV over the internet. Powered by the creators of Freeview, Freely offers access to over 60 live channels and a diverse library of on-demand shows. This setup facilitates easy relocation of the device, straightforward installation, and regular feature enhancements.
Key features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR video quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio support, and an integrated TV guide showcasing current and upcoming programs. Users can conveniently manage the device through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, allowing them to browse schedules and control recordings remotely.
While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it stands out as a free-to-use service without any subscription fees.
The Humax Aura EZ is slated for release in the UK in February 2026 with a recommended retail price of £249.
