“Stoke-on-Trent Resident Guilty of Harassing Neighbor”

Published:

A resident in Stoke-on-Trent pleaded guilty to harassing his neighbor for seven months by repeatedly accusing him of being a “paedo” and engaging in various confrontations, including disputes over parking. Marek Powalski, 52, who has since relocated, had a history of ongoing conflicts with neighbors for several years, according to North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Powalski was fined £120, plus £85 in costs and a £48 surcharge for harassment without violence between September 23, 2024, and April 26, 2025. The prosecution detailed incidents where Powalski insulted his neighbor, filmed him installing CCTV cameras, made offensive gestures towards the cameras, and engaged in verbal altercations over parking.

The targeted neighbor expressed fear of encountering Powalski, especially in the garage, due to the harassment. His wife mentioned the detrimental impact on her mental well-being, leading her to avoid leaving the house. In defense, Powalski’s representative stated that the defendant had moved to a different residence to escape the escalating tensions and distress caused by the situation.

The defense attorney acknowledged a prolonged history of conflicts, indicating that Powalski’s decision to sell his house was a result of the mounting pressure and strain from the ongoing disputes. The sale of the property reportedly incurred a substantial financial loss for Powalski and his family.
