“Teen Set Ablaze: Family Seeks Support for Victim”

Published:

An incident involving a teenager who was threatened with eight words before being drenched in petrol and set ablaze has left the victim, Jacob Thompson, 19, hospitalized with severe burns covering approximately 32% of his body. The attack, which occurred on October 13, resulted in third-degree burns to Jacob’s face, torso, arms, back, and legs.

Prior to the assault, Aaron Valette, 19, reportedly brandished a plastic bottle containing a clear liquid and warned Jacob by saying, “If you come any closer I’ll burn you.” Subsequently, Valette allegedly poured the liquid on Jacob before igniting it. Prompt action from bystanders in Coonabarabran, Australia, helped extinguish the fire.

Following the incident, Jacob was swiftly taken to a medical facility for treatment. Authorities believe the attack stemmed from an ongoing conflict between two local families.

Valette has been accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and affray, while Mavis Chatfield, 45, faces an affray charge. Both individuals have been denied bail.

Jacob’s family, deeply affected by the traumatic event, recounted the distressing experience and the challenges they have faced in the aftermath. Despite being initially on life support, Jacob has shown slight improvements but continues to struggle with breathing issues. His family described his emotional state as he copes with his injuries and highlighted his positive attitude during the challenging recovery process.

Receiving care at Concord Hospital, Jacob remains surrounded by his family, who have relocated from their hometown due to safety concerns. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to support Jacob and his family through the extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery ahead, emphasizing the need for a secure environment for Jacob’s ongoing care and the well-being of the entire family.
