Tennis Star Jannik Sinner to Miss Rest of 2026

Published:

Top-ranked tennis player Jannik Sinner has announced that he will be sidelined for the remainder of the year due to an ongoing knee injury. Sinner has been out of action since July, following his victory over Alexander Zverev at Wimbledon, and subsequently pulled out of the U.S. Open due to a right knee issue.

In a recent Instagram video message, Sinner stated, “After consultation with medical professionals, it has been determined that I require treatment for my knee, leading to the conclusion that my 2026 season has come to an end. I am focused on my long-term career and will dedicate myself to a full recovery.”

During his absence, Sinner risks losing his current top-ranking position. He had previously confirmed his absence from the upcoming Shanghai Masters and has now announced his withdrawal from the Paris Masters, the ATP Finals in November, and the Davis Cup Final 8 where he was set to compete for Italy.

While the 25-year-old player will miss several key events, there is a possibility that he could return in time for the Australian Open, which is scheduled to begin on Jan. 17. His management team disclosed that the decision for immediate treatment is aimed at resolving knee inflammation and ensuring a full recovery before gearing up for the 2027 season.

Notably, Sinner, who has clinched five Grand Slam titles, experienced a 30-match winning streak earlier this year but faced a setback at the French Open amid challenging conditions. His main rival, Carlos Alcaraz, also faced a lengthy absence this year due to a right wrist injury.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev has been making strides in the tennis world, having secured two out of the four Grand Slam titles and edging closer to the coveted No. 1 ranking.
