Three major high street banks, including Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, all part of Lloyds Banking Group, have announced the closure of 71 branches next year due to the increasing trend of online banking. The closures were initially disclosed earlier this year.
The list comprises 40 Lloyds branches, 14 Halifax locations, and 17 Bank of Scotland sites. Customers affected by these closures have alternative options available.
Customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland can conduct their everyday banking at branches of any of the three banks. Additionally, they can explore the possibility of utilizing “banking hubs,” which are bank facilities set up in shared public spaces on the high street.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group emphasized the shift in banking preferences, with more than 21 million customers choosing apps to manage their finances. The spokesperson highlighted the increased convenience offered through digital solutions while ensuring access to physical banking services through branches, the Post Office, and banking hubs, along with the ability to deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
