A grandmother, Karen Spragg, is currently on trial with a young woman, Julia Wandelt, who believes she is Madeleine McCann. During police interviews, Spragg expressed her desire for Kate to give Julia a chance. The duo faced accusations of stalking, with the court learning that they initially connected online when Spragg commented on Wandelt’s posts about her possible connection to the missing girl from Portugal in 2007.
According to statements read in court, Spragg admitted to driving to the McCann family home after picking up Wandelt from the airport and accommodating her in Cardiff before staying at a hotel near the McCann residence. Spragg mentioned confronting Kate and Gerry McCann, stating that Gerry was dismissive towards Julia. Spragg defended Julia, emphasizing her belief in Julia’s claims and advocating for a DNA test to confirm her identity.
Spragg’s remarks highlighted her support for Julia, stating that she has provided substantial evidence to back her claims. Wandelt, accused of stalking the McCann family, allegedly sent various forms of communication to them. The trial, focusing on incidents between June 2022 and February 2025, is ongoing.
