“UK Man Stabbed in Spain Over Cigarette Refusal”

Published:

A man from the UK was hospitalized in Spain after allegedly getting stabbed with a screwdriver by a passerby whom he refused to give a cigarette to. The victim, identified as Scottish by the authorities, sustained a punctured lung in the attack that occurred in Plaza de Ayuntamiento in Valencia’s city center around 4 am on Saturday. A 45-year-old man, with a reported criminal record, was apprehended at the scene in connection with the incident.

The assault unfolded after a woman’s cries caught the attention of nearby police officers. The woman, a citizen of Uruguay, had been with the Scottish man when the alleged stabbing took place. She informed the authorities that the assailant approached the man asking for a cigarette. When the man declined, the suspect purportedly used a screwdriver to stab him.

The suspect was described by the newspaper Las Provincias as someone with “altered mental faculties.” The victim was admitted to Doctor Peset University Hospital in Valencia, with his current medical condition remaining undisclosed.

In a separate incident, a man in his 20s was stabbed in the neck at Palma Airport in Mallorca without an apparent motive. The victim, waiting for a friend at the airport, was approached by an individual who engaged him in a conversation about his phone. Suddenly, the individual brandished a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck.

Following the attack, a suspect was swiftly arrested within the airport premises while the victim received immediate medical attention from SAMU 061 emergency services. The victim was stabilized at the scene before being transferred to a hospital for specialized treatment.

A reliable source later mentioned that the attacker claimed to have no recollection of the incident, explaining, “The man arrested said he doesn’t remember anything.” Allegedly, the attacker became agitated after his phone was stolen, and mistakenly approached the victim, assuming he was involved in the theft.

Reports indicated that the suspect was among the homeless individuals at Palma Airport. The victim, an Argentine residing on the island, had gone to pick up a family member and had no prior acquaintance with the assailant.
