The Vancouver Rise had a strong debut with Alex Lamontagne scoring two goals as they defeated the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League action on Saturday. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also found the net for the Rise. The team dominated the second half, scoring three goals in just 10 minutes and securing a comfortable victory at TD Place. Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, ending Jessica Wulf’s clean sheet hopes.
Following this win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, surpassing the Halifax Tide by one point. They now have a record of seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. Despite the loss, the Ottawa Rapid still lead the league with 33 points, holding a three-point advantage over the second-place Montreal Roses. Their current record stands at 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.
During the match, the Vancouver Rise had a slight edge in possession, controlling 53% of the ball compared to the Rapid’s 47%. They also outshot their opponents 17-8, with 11 shots on target versus the Rapid’s 3. Vancouver earned four corner kicks while the Rapid received two yellow cards, just like their opponents.
Looking ahead, the Rise will host the Calgary Wild on Saturday, Aug. 29, while the Rapid will travel to face AFC Toronto on Sunday, Aug. 30.
