A woman in Airdrie, identified as Kira Cousins, has faced backlash for orchestrating a fake pregnancy scheme involving a lifelike doll named Bonnie-Leigh. Cousins allegedly utilized a prosthetic baby bump, staged a faux birthing scenario, and introduced the doll as her newborn daughter on social media, claiming a birth weight of 5lbs 4oz on October 10.
Leading up to the elaborate charade, Cousins shared images of ultrasounds, hosted a grand gender reveal party, posted videos showcasing the “baby” kicking inside her belly, and displayed gifts such as a pricey pram and car seat supposedly for Bonnie-Leigh. Reports suggest she even feigned complications during supposed hospital visits, citing a fabricated heart defect detected during prenatal tests.
The deceit unraveled when acquaintances disclosed that the infant never cried, and Cousins prevented anyone from handling the baby, citing ongoing health issues requiring visits to Wishaw General Hospital. Screenshots of messages purportedly sent by Cousins revealed her informing the alleged father of Bonnie-Leigh about the fictitious death of the baby.
In a response shared on TikTok, Cousins admitted to the deception, claiming her family and the father were unaware of the ruse until the doll was discovered. Close friend Neave McRobert exposed the sham, recounting how she noticed the absence of crying from the baby and eventually confirmed the doll’s identity with the father.
The use of Reborn dolls, like the one in this scandal, typically ranges from £30 to £2000, designed to resemble real infants, some equipped with sound and sensory features.
