Yamamoto shines as Dodgers take 2-1 lead

Published:

Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a stellar performance, striking out 10 batters over seven innings while Kike Hernandez’s two-run homer propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 victory over Atlanta, giving them a 2-1 lead in the NL Division Series. Yamamoto outshined Atlanta’s ace Chris Sale, who yielded three runs and seven hits in five innings. The 2025 World Series MVP only allowed four hits and one walk, further solidifying his 8-1 postseason record.

With a chance to clinch the series and pursue a historic third consecutive World Series title, the Dodgers will aim to defeat Atlanta in Game 4 on Wednesday night. Sale, who had been given extra rest in hopes of a strong performance, struggled after leaving six runners on base in the early innings, ultimately surrendering home runs to Hernandez and Freddie Freeman.

In the upcoming Game 4, the Braves are set to send Tyler Mahle to the mound against the Dodgers’ Tyler Glasnow. Mahle, who dealt with an abdominal issue in his previous outing, expressed confidence that it will not impact his performance after a solid showing in the NL Wild Card Series last week.

Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres stayed alive in the playoffs with a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of their NL Division Series. Jake Cronenworth’s go-ahead homer and strong relief pitching by Michael King secured the victory for the Padres, narrowing the Brewers’ series lead to 2-1.

The Padres will look to even the series in Game 4 at Petco Park on Wednesday, with a potential Game 5 scheduled for Friday in Milwaukee if needed. Despite missing closer Mason Miller, who was placed on paternity leave just before the game, King stepped in admirably to secure his first postseason save and help the Padres extend their postseason run.
