Three tourists lost their lives, and two others are currently missing following an avalanche that descended a mountain range in the Alps. The tragic incident took place on Cima Vertana in the Ortles Mountain range in Italy’s South Tyrol region around 4 pm.
A team of five ski mountaineers was caught in the avalanche, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man and woman, along with a 50-year-old man. Efforts are ongoing to locate the two missing individuals through a joint operation involving a helicopter rescue service and firefighters.
Rescuers recovered the bodies of the deceased climbers after they were swept away while climbing. Reports suggest that the avalanche occurred suddenly, with two of the climbers being trapped under debris and sustaining minor injuries in the process.
