Three individuals, aged 44, 45, and 48, have been apprehended on suspicion of aiding Russia’s intelligence service, according to the Metropolitan Police. Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing took the men into custody at residences in west and central London on Thursday. They are currently being held by the authorities under section 3 of the National Security Act.
Commander Dominic Murphy, who leads Counter Terrorism Policing in London, emphasized the rise in recruitment of individuals acting as ‘proxies’ for foreign intelligence agencies. He stated that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt such activities and warned individuals against engaging in criminal acts on behalf of foreign states in the UK. Murphy highlighted that such activities will be thoroughly investigated, and those involved can expect prosecution with severe consequences upon conviction.
