“McCann Stalking Suspect Silent in Police Interview”

Published:

A woman facing allegations of stalking the McCann family declined to answer numerous police questions during her interview. Julia Wandelt, a 24-year-old woman from Poland, is currently on trial for impersonating the missing girl Madeleine McCann and stalking her family members.

During the trial at Leicester Crown Court, jurors listened to recordings of Wandelt’s police interview where she repeatedly chose not to respond to inquiries regarding her contact with the McCann family, her evidence of being Madeleine, and her presence at the McCann residence. However, she did break her silence at one point to demand a DNA test.

Wandelt expressed sadness upon hearing Kate McCann’s statement and questioned why her DNA had not been tested despite her claims and evidence. She also mentioned her father’s speculation about her possibly being the lost child.

Prosecutors presented evidence of numerous text messages and voicemails sent by Wandelt to Kate McCann, where she pleaded for acknowledgment and claimed to be Madeleine. Wandelt’s actions, including emails, phone calls, and visits to the McCanns’ home, were said to push the false narrative that she was the missing girl.

Forensic analysis confirmed that Wandelt’s DNA did not match that of Madeleine McCann or her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann. Wandelt faces charges of stalking the McCann family and is accused of sending various forms of communication to them. The trial, which started in June 2022, is ongoing.
