“Anthony Joshua Returns to Gym Following Car Accident”

Published:

Anthony Joshua has made a comeback to the boxing gym almost three weeks after being in a tragic car accident in Nigeria. The former two-time heavyweight champion was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that crashed into a stationary truck near Lagos, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of two close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Their funerals were held in London on January 4.

Joshua, who was in Nigeria for a holiday and family visit after defeating Jake Paul, spent time in the hospital for minor injuries before being released on New Year’s Eve. Speculation arose about his future in boxing, but recent snapshots shared on Snapchat show Joshua working out in the gym, engaging in what he calls “mental strength therapy.” The images feature him doing various exercises, including hitting pads, lower leg workouts, and using a stationary bike, as well as swimming.

Despite reports from Joshua’s uncle suggesting his retirement post-accident, Mirror Fighting clarifies that Joshua has not yet made a decision regarding his boxing career. Additionally, the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged in connection with the crash. There were initial reports stating that Joshua had switched seats before the accident, narrowly avoiding a fatal outcome.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, emphasized that there have been no discussions about Joshua’s future in boxing, highlighting the need for Joshua to take time to heal and make his own decision. Hearn expressed confidence in Joshua’s eventual return to the sport but stressed the importance of allowing Joshua the space to recover mentally and physically before any such decisions are made. Thoughts and prayers are extended to Joshua, the families of the deceased, and all affected by the tragic incident.
