“Alberta Parks Worker’s Encounter: Pine Marten Steals Dinner”

Published:

Chad Dupuis, a resident of Slave Lake, Alberta, has been employed by Alberta Parks since 2017. He shared a personal experience highlighting the importance of respecting wildlife in forested areas. As the maintenance supervisor at Carson Pegasus Provincial Park, Dupuis recounted a day filled with park preparations under the hot sun. After completing tasks like cleaning up trash and prepping campsites, he returned to his Winnebago, only to find his anticipated steak dinner missing. Initially suspecting a bear due to a recent encounter, Dupuis discovered a hole in his window screen, revealing a pine marten as the culprit. The agile pine marten made a quick exit, allowing Dupuis to reflect on the unpredictability of wildlife encounters and the need to coexist harmoniously with nature. This incident served as a reminder that forest inhabitants deserve respect and caution, even for seasoned forest workers like Dupuis.
